Marth Munro Welcomed As a New Master Teacher
The Master Teacher Council is pleased to recognize the accomplishments of Dr. Marth Munro and welcome her as a new Master Teacher in Lessac Kinesensic Training. Dr. Munro teaches at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, where she serves as mentor to graduate students in theatre and voice training. She is the Director of Research for the Lessac Training and Research Institute, and has authored numerous articles about her research in Kinesensic training, some of which are included in the book “Collected Writings on the Lessac Voice and Body Work: A Festschrift”, published by Llumina Press, which she co-edited. She has been a rated researcher in the discipline of Theatre through the National Research Foundation in South Africa since 2006.
Dr. Munro has been a Lessac Certified Trainer since 1990. She was a member of the early “Swarthmore Group”, responsible for creating the beginnings of the Institute as we know it today. Under her leadership, the University of Pretoria has become a center for Kinesensic
workshops, including the first Intensives ever held outside of the United States.
Dr. Munro spent two years in intensive training and engagement with the current Master Teachers. During that time, she taught at three Intensives—two in South Africa and one in the United States, as well as presented two shorter workshops for actors and for teachers in South Africa. She has mentored six students who have become Lessac Practitioners, and three of them are now pursuing certification.
Dr. Munro brings a wealth of experience as well as a true sense of exploration and playfulness to her new role as Master Teacher. Please join us in celebrating her success!
