Camera actors' performances are influenced by the particular shot size. The way in which the actor expresses the character's intent on a close-up shot, for example, differs from the way in which the character's intent is expressed on a full shot. While the character's intent remains the same, the actor as character communicates this intent by altering their physical and vocal behaviour. At times the actor will honor a close shot size (thus using intimate or conversational behaviour) while the character will communicate beyond their personal space sphere (using social or heightened behaviour). The actor navigates the various distances that are simultaneously at play by blending elements of various levels of communicative behaviour. We’ll explore these concepts in an embodied way, using our own body wisdom and childlike curiosity... oh, and a bit of basic technology. The camera you have on your laptop, phone or tablet (whatever device you will sign in with) will do the trick.
